Cloud Platform Engineer – European Commission

🎯 About the Role

The Cloud Platform Engineer will support the Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE). The CCoE enables secure, efficient and cost‑effective adoption of cloud services across the European Commission.

The consultant will design, implement, maintain and administer solutions based on the Commission’s Internal Development Platform (IDP), Cycloid, co‑developing the platform together with DIGIT.B.4.

The role focuses on delivering secure, reliable and scalable cloud platform components, enabling development teams to consume cloud services efficiently rather than executing operations directly.

📋 Responsibilities

• Design, document, deploy and maintain stacks on the Cycloid platform.

• Develop Proof of Concepts and prototype infrastructure components.

• Design reusable components and make them available to internal customers.

• Assist Project Managers and Solution Architects in identifying technical solutions to functional or regulatory issues.

• Participate in coordination and project meetings.

• Contribute to investigations and technical issue analysis when required.

• Provide advisory services to help teams select the most suitable cloud provider and services.

• Deliver new cloud accounts and support their configuration.

• Provide support on cloud platforms and IDP components, ensuring integration with DIGIT.B.4 services.

• Organise and distribute work among CCoE colleagues.

• Produce and maintain detailed system‑level documentation.

• Ensure solutions meet expected levels of security, reliability and availability, including proactive monitoring.

• Coordinate changes and monitoring tasks with DIGIT.B.4 and other technical stakeholders.

🎯 Mandatory Requirements

🧠 Professional Experience

• 10+ years designing, configuring and administering large AWS or Azure environments.

• ≥1 year of experience with at least one sovereign cloud provider:

  • Clever Cloud, STACKIT, Scaleway or S3NS.

• ≥6 months of experience with Cycloid.

• Experience working in structured environments with formal change, incident, request, problem and configuration management processes.

• Experience producing system‑level documentation.

• Experience collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders.

• Experience ensuring security, reliability and availability of cloud solutions.

• Experience with Terraform providers for cloud platforms.

• Experience with Oracle Cloud or IBM Cloud is an asset.

• Experience supporting platform‑level services and cloud enablement teams.

• Experience participating in project and coordination meetings.

• Experience providing technical advisory services.

• Experience performing investigations and root‑cause analysis.

• Experience distributing work within a technical team.

• Experience with monitoring systems and proactive operational improvements.

🧰 Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in Cycloid and its underlying technical stack.

• Strong knowledge of AWS or Azure.

• Knowledge of sovereign cloud providers (Clever Cloud preferred).

• Ability to design secure, scalable and reliable cloud platform components.

• Ability to produce architecture documents, deployment procedures, ad‑hoc code and analysis reports.

• Ability to integrate cloud platform components with DIGIT.B.4 services.

• Ability to support development teams in cloud provider selection.

• Ability to maintain detailed operational documentation.

• Ability to work autonomously and proactively.

• Ability to support investigations and technical assessments.

• Ability to coordinate with multiple technical stakeholders.
