Database Administrator (DBA)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, operate, monitor, and optimize enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. The role includes a strong focus on data integration, real-time data processing, and IoT-related data flows, ensuring high availability, security, and performance of critical business systems.

Mandatory Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field;

• Alternatively, a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in database administration and management;

• Proven experience participating in data migration, modernization, or transformation projects;

• Experience with IoT data flows, real-time data ingestion, or integration with external systems and platforms.

Certifications

Candidates must hold at least one of the following certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300);

• A recognized PostgreSQL Certification.

Technical Skills

Database Administration

• Microsoft SQL Server Administration;

• PostgreSQL Administration;

• Azure SQL Managed Instance;

• Google Cloud SQL (GCP).

Database Design & Performance

• Relational and NoSQL data modelling;

• Query optimization and performance tuning;

• Database capacity planning and performance monitoring;

• Troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Backup and recovery strategies;

• Clustering, replication, and high-availability solutions;

• Disaster recovery planning and testing.

Data Integration & Real-Time Processing

• ETL processes and data integration;

• Real-time data ingestion architectures;

• Azure Event Hubs;

• Google Cloud Pub/Sub;

• Integration with IoT platforms and external systems.

Security & Compliance

• Data encryption and security best practices;

• Access control and identity management;

• GDPR compliance and data governance;

• Security monitoring and auditing.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Support development teams with database design and optimization;

• Produce technical documentation and operational procedures;

• Provide recommendations for technological evolution and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and optimize SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and GCP Cloud SQL environments;

• Ensure database availability, reliability, performance, and security;

• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, clustering, and replication solutions;

• Support data integration, ETL processes, and real-time data ingestion platforms;

• Monitor database performance and proactively resolve issues;

• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, data, and operations teams;

• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements;

• Produce technical reports and recommendations regarding platform evolution and optimization.

Contract Deliverables

The selected consultant will be responsible for delivering:

• Monthly database performance report, submitted on the first business day of each month;

• Capacity assessment reports upon request;

• Backup and recovery plans, delivered within 30 days of the request date;

• Technical recommendations and documentation supporting database platform evolution.

Language Requirements

• Portuguese and/or English professional proficiency.
